
Raphael Xavier Varane (born April 25, 1993) is a French professional footballer who currently plays for Premier League side Manchester United and the France national team. Varane is regarded as one of the best defenders of his generation due to his defensive prowess and pace.
Varane formerly played for French club Lens and began practicing with the senior team ahead of the 2010-11 season, appearing on the bench in numerous league matches. Varane made his professional debut in 2010 at the age of 17, and after one season, he joined Real Madrid. From 2011 to 2021, he won 18 trophies at Real Madrid, including three La Liga crowns, one Copa del Rey, four UEFA Champions League titles, and four FIFA Club World Cups. He left Real Madrid in 2021 to join Manchester United.
Varane represented France at the under-18, under-20, and under-21 levels before making his full international debut in March 2013. He was a member of France’s FIFA World Cup roster in 2014 when he was nominated for the Best Young Player award, and in 2018, when he played every minute of every game as France won the title.
